10 Questions to Help You Get Control of Your Eating at Christmas

  1. What food habits and traditions am I stuck in? Can I let go of any?
  2. What prep and planning can I do? Make a plan for what to do around food at Christmas. E.g. Freeze leftovers.
  3. What are my resources around food? Make a list of your coping mechanisms.
  4. How am I brainwashing myself? "Go on then, it's Christmas" "I'll eat what I want now, I'll diet in January".
  5. How can I get support around family dynamics and difficulties?
  6. Am I enjoying this food? Stop and check in.
  7. Do I want this food? Only eat when you want to. It's OK to say no to feeders and food pushers.
  8. How can I have boundaries around others? (Ask people not to comment on your weight or food intake).
  9. What else can I do that could help? Leave food out of sight. Buy less. What else?
  10. How are my emotions triggering my eating? Keep a log of emotional eating, shame, frustration, and self-punishment with food. Be kind to how you feel and take extra care of yourself.
  11. Bonus! Remember WHY you want to stop eating. Because you will convince yourself "it doesn't matter, it's Christmas"
